With all the cruelty that’s going on in the world…wars and violence and killings sprees…
I’d like to take a moment and concentrate on the kinder side of humanity.
Those moments, usually fleeting, where happiness seems to fly in gossamer wings…
Where some of the biggest smiles are generated from the littlest of things.
Moments that may not seem like much…but into ones memory are preserved…
Here are some in a few hours yesterday…I happened to observe.
Some of the reasons I feel…I hope…that show our country’s not going down the drain:
I saw a man helping a young girl on the freeway…changing her tire in the rain.
A mother lifting up her tired toddler…and giving him a ride
A boy holding the door to an elevator until man with a walker got inside.
A young boy seeing a woman drop a dollar from her sack…
who ran across the floor…so he could give it back.
A young girl waving and saying hi to everyone…her smile couldn’t be sweeter
A man giving a couple the quarter they needed to fill the parking meter.
The chef thanking to an older couple for patronizing his new restaurant…this was only their day three…and finding out this couple’s been on a trip celebrating their anniversary.
Then returning a little while later…setting a desert in front of this old husband and her spouse…smiling, saying Happy Anniversary…the desert is on the house.
What made that last part even more special…that old couple celebrating their anniversary…wasn’t just any old couple…that was Deborah and that was me.
We left that restaurant with smiles and a little chocolate on our faces…floating as if we had wings…thankful for a day…a life…filled with little things.
And hoping that if more people concentrated on the little things…less cruelty we might see…allowing more people more time to experience the kinder side of humanity.
