I Wonder About Friendship...you see I rather like the notion
That I am captain of a ship that sails across life's ocean.

Some friends board at different ports, others disembark along the way
And some will ride my friend ship until my dyng day.

I Wonder About Earth's Artistry

I wonder about Earth's artistry and the colors she achieves
As she paints her Summer flowers and Autumn's changing of the leaves.

It's ebony and ivory that make her Winter canvas sing...
Then she reminds us again of color when her dogwoods bloom in Spring.

I Wonder About Ignorance

i wonder about ignorance...for it is no mystery
How ignorance leads to fear...then prejudice...then bigotry.

And it is prejudice and bigotry that will lead to our downfall...
Which makes me wonder if ignorance...is not the worst evil of all.

I Wonder About Death

I wonder how we find a way when someone we love dies
To climb out of the darkness and put the light back in our eyes?

There is no panacea, no universal solution one can find
So I prefer to find my way...by the light they left behind.

I Wonder About Some People's Love

I wonder why some people's love is distorted by what they see
When they see gender, race, religion, age or disability?

I wonder if the way to remedy this and love all humankind
Would be to close our eyes when we meet someone...and to their differences be blind.

I Wonder About Campfires

I wonder about campfires and why we love them so?
It's more than how the flames shoot up and oscillate to and fro.

Could it be one campfire reminds us of all the campfires we've sat around
And in those flames our youth is rediscovered and our innocence is found?

I Wonder About Heaven

I wonder about heaven...do we really have to wait
Until we die to reach the stars and enter those pearly gates?

Or is it a little simpler than that...what if from the moment of our birth
We all accept and help each other...and make our heaven here on Earth?

I Wonder About Tombstones

I wonder about tombstones..how they mark the place we lie,
Inscribed on them is the moment we're born...followed by the moment we die.

These moments are important and I do not wish to demean them
But what makes our lives remarkable...are the moments in between them.

I Wonder About Earth Day

I wonder today as we celebrate Earth...are you saddened by what you see
As we pollute our waters and destroy our lands so indiscriminately?

When you see our planet so divided,  so filled with prejudice and hate
Do you wonder if, come next year...there'll be an Earth to celebrate?

I wonder when I see a newborn baby...about those little baby feet.
When I think how quickly they will grow...it is a little bittersweet.

Time with our children moves ever onward...does not stop...will not repeat
So we must cherish the moments when they are young...and have those little baby feet.

By whisking us around the world on imagination's wings...

I wonder why we're not more upset when people we don't know die...
When earthquakes tear apart the land or tornadoes fall from the sky?

I wish more people would realize what Mother Teresa knew...
When someone dies upon this Earth... A part of us dies too.

I wonder about parenting... It is a blessing and a curse.
You are a warden, a cook, a cleaner, a chauffeur and a nurse.

You feel every joyous moment, every sorrow, every pain
And when they're grown... You smile and think... I'd do it all again.

From the birds that soar across the sky to insects crawling on the ground,

Perhaps she's reminding us to find a star in the darkness shining bright

A walk along a meandering stream, a stroll among the trees?

Or simply watching hummingbirds a-flutter as clouds go floating by

As she turns the world around us into a painting by Monet.

For a few moments all things blend together and colors coexist
Perhaps that is the wonder of the fog...the beauty of the mist.

I wonder about Winter...how does she know her end is near?
That it is time for her to rest a while and Spring to reappear?

Could it be a smile warms her heart when she hears the robin sing
And she allows the ground to soften for the first crocuses of Spring?

It's easier said than done but it's quite a simple plan

Why then do mother’s worry...and worry our whole life through?
Because...they are our mothers...and that’s what mothers do.
