A MOUNTAIN OF MEMORIES

When we first came to the mountains it was for the cool summer breezes,

the flowers, the trees… to enjoy hiking, playing in the water…watching the butterflies and bees.

And we quickly discovered…although these are wonderful…what makes these mountains endear…are the memories we leave behind…that wait for us each year.

Memories of Deborah’s mom and dad are here…when we sit around the campfire…toasting marshmallows in the flames…when we sit around the picnic table on the porch…eating dinner…playing games.

We feel them in so many items in our cabin they left behind…

Is it possible their memories and the cabin are intertwined?

Memories of our children and grandchildren are here…playing, imagining…walking in the woods so happy and carefree….fighting, sharing, cooking together…learning how to be a family.

Memories of our friends are here…because after Deborah’s parents died…we opened up the cabin and invited them inside.

And because Deborah’s parents were so welcoming…so giving every day

we know that they are smiling….they would have wanted it this way.

Memories of vacations, holidays, birthdays…those days when presents were received…of wedding days…of honeymoons…of one beautiful baby girl conceived…

Yes, when we first came to the mountains it was for the cool summer breezes,

the flowers, the trees… to enjoy hiking, playing in the water…watching the butterflies and bees.

Now, when we sit together on the porch…in the cool of a summer breeze…

we find we’re no just visiting the mountains…but a mountain of memories.
