THE FALL

Since with the North Carolina summers we were thoroughly enthralled
We decided when we retired to experience the Fall.

So off we drove to NC when we retired from the school.
And arrived to find the leaves still green but the temperature was cool.

Today we noticed with this retirement we had some time to bide
So upon the Blue Ridge Parkway we decided to take a ride.

We drove to the higher elevations as we are wont to do
And found the trees on the mountain tops were slowly changing hues.

The colors were not vibrant yet, in fact they were still a little faint
It’s as if God in all his artistry had just begun to paint.

But even at this early stage it was easy for us to see
The potential in the canvas of the masterpiece to be.

We felt blessed to be among the trees, to see the clouds and sky
As we viewed this unfinished work of art unfolding before our eyes.

Now with the North Carolina Autumn we are thoroughly enthralled
For we get to view and be a part of this year’s painting of the Fall.
