Her mother died when she was young…
Somehow she survived the ordeal…
She will always miss her…some wounds never heal.
Her mother loved pelicans…
She use to marvel how they soared on the breeze like a kite…
and though she loved all pelicans…her favorite ones where white.
Now, whenever she walks along the surf…
When the sea is tranquil and calm…
If a white pelican soars over her head…it reminds her of her mom.
When she hears the swoosh of the pelican’s wings…
When she sees the smile on its beak…
She smiles and waves at that pelican…as a tears rolls down her cheek.
On her wedding day…with her mom now many years out of reach…
she decided to have her ceremony…in the sand…upon the beach.
Halfway through the service…at the same time she took his hand
a pelican circled overhead…and landed on the sand.
She thought of her mom
as she watched this pelican soar on the breeze like a kite…
and she had to stop to catch her breath because…
this pelican…was white.
It was a beautiful moment…that added to the beauty of the day
and when the ceremony was over…the pelican flew away.
All of her life she never thought much about guardian angels…
that is…until her wedding night…
now her favorite guardian angel…
is a pelican…painted white.
