It rained off and on throughout the evening..the streets that morning were still wet
and by the look of the clouds blanketing the sky…it wasn’t done raining yet.
But I took a chance and went for a walk…hoping fate and luck would keep me dry
Besides…I love walking when the clouds are low…where I can reach up and touch the sky.
And if it starts to shower…as from my many poems you may have ascertained…
I enjoy the morning just as much…when walking in the rain.
So off I walked in the morning silence I’ve become accustomed to.,,
when suddenly in the darkness I heard…
somewhere in the trees above me…the song of a mockingbird.
One bird who, like me, rose early and ignoring the dark clouds in the sky
decided to sing her morning melody…while hoping to stay dry.
So I stopped to listen to this bird whose voice was both beautiful and strong…
she paused in the middle of her concert and asked if I wanted to sing along.
I thanked her but declined…because…I told her…here’s the thing…
“Your voice is so just beautiful…I’d rather listen to you sing.”
Her next song was a sad song…so sad when her notes floated up to the sky
the clouds, too, felt her sadness and they began to cry.
And there we were…just the two of us…in a morning I won’t forget
a bird and a man who were hoping to stay dry…now happily getting wet.
It was a concert I thoroughly enjoyed…even soaked down to my bones…
because she did not stop singing…and I refused to let her sing alone.
As I walked home when she finished I thought is there a better way to start my day
a nicer way to be entertained….
than listening to a mockingbird…
give a concert…
in the rain.
