One day after Earth Day…thinking about what Earth Day is celebrated for…
I’m also thinking about all the children on opposite sides of a war
Thinking of all the horrors on this Earth with which they must contend
I imagine, one of the things they have in common is they all pray for war to end.
How their parents tell them they are too young and too innocent to fully understand.
How they are told this is a Holy War…fought for control of Holy Land
And their parents are right…
to these children who under different circumstances could have all been friends
a holy war fought for holy land is a concept they find difficult to comprehend.
They are too young and too innocent…to fully contemplate
how the same parents who taught them how to love…
are not teaching them to hate.
I imagine these children to their separate Gods do pray….
asking them for answers…wondering what their God will say.
and I imagine their Gods provide the same answer
to the same identical prayer…
Saying all the land on Earth is holy…as is all the water…all the air.
Saying no one owns the land…the air
saying no one owns the sea…
Saying they were a gift from Mother Earth…
Saying how each one of them…is free.
It’s a simple message that Gods and the children know…
and hope one day…their parents will be able to see:
How all the land,
the sea
and the water will forever be holy…
and how no war will ever be.
