It’s hard to believe our neighbor’s daughter, Abby, just turned one…
we’re amazed in a year how much she’s grown.
to celebrate her momentous day…we gave her a Fisher-Price telephone.
We know it’s just a play phone but wouldn’t it be great
If when she puts the receiver to her ear…
Streaming…would be words we’d love for her to hear…
Things like: life is to be lived, Abby,
you don’t always have to do what’s right…
it’s okay to color outside the lines…
.one day…fly a kite.
Believe in yourself…even when others don’t…
dip your toes into the sea…
every now and then stop to count the stars…
by all means…climb a tree.
Make it a point to enjoy the sunrise in the morning
and that same evening be sure to watch it set.
do the best you can in all you do…if you make a mistake…don’t fret!
Never in your life, Abby, be too frightened to take a chance….
the moment you start to talk…don’t be afraid to sing
and the moment you start to walk…don’t be afraid to dance.
Eat a lot of ice cream…hug and kiss and share
Never knowingly hurt another creature on this Earth
(sometimes…it’s okay to swear).
Love life when everything is bright…and even when everything seems black
for you’ll find if you love with all your heart…the world will love you back.
Come to think of it…this information doesn’t need to come from her play phone
She should just have some fun with it as she crawls across the floor….
These are things her mom and dad will be teaching her…
Because…that’s what Moms and Dads are for.
