TOOTH FAIRY

 TOOTH FAIRY

“Mommy! Look!” Evelynn said. “I just lost my first tooth.”

Her mom smiled knowing this was another stepping stone of youth.

“You’re growing up, her mother said with a hug. “This proves it without a doubt. The first sign this is happening is when your baby teeth fall out.”

“Losing your tooth is a right of passage…It’s wonderful…it’s exquisite.

And tonight…if you hide it under your pillow…the tooth fairy will pay you a visit.”

“She’ll stop by while you’re sleeping…long before the early morn.

She’ll fly in by herself while outside your window waits Ivory…her unicorn.”

“The tooth fairy is not only beautiful…she’s also generous and kind and without waking you she’ll take your tooth…and leave a gift behind.”

“You’ll know she came to visit in the morning…the moment you lift your head

because you’ll find your gift under your pillow…and fairy dust on your bed.”

“How does she know I’ve lost a tooth?” her daughter asked

How does she know where to go?”

“It’s the same magic that brings Santa Claus and the Easter Bunny.” Her mom said.

“The tooth fairy just knows.”

“Why does she take my tooth?” Evelynn asked

Her mom answered…”No one knows exactly why…

but I like to think she takes your tooth to her castle in the sky.”

“Where she plants it in her tooth garden…where, after days of being kissed by the morning dew…it grows into a flower…the same day a new tooth grows in you.”

That night they gently wrapped her tooth in cloth…and under her pillow it was hid.

Evelynn didn’t think she’d ever fall asleep…but eventually her eyes closed and she did.

The next morning she ran down the stairs yelling…

“Mom…Dad…the tooth fairy took my tooth!  And look what she left me there.”

She was smiling holding her money and there was fairy dust in her hair.

And somewhere up in the heavens…in a castle beautiful and enchanting

The tooth fairy was also smiling…as a new tooth she was planting.
