DO THEY ENJOY THE SUNRISE

We like to take our walks early…at least we always try…

so we can be there when the sun begins to paint the morning sky.

It’s a beautiful time of day…if we’re lucky there’s a morning breeze

and as the sun begins shed her light…we say good morning to the trees.

And to the birds who sing their morning song to welcome in the day

to the flowers with their early blooms…to the rabbits who nod then silently hop away.

When we get to the water’s edge…to the pelicans we wave hi

and if we’re lucky we will greet the dolphins as they go floating by.

The other morning as we watched the sun paint the sky

in yellow, oranges, purples and pinks.

changing the colors of the clouds as fast as we could blink…

I got to wondering if the birds who fly much closer to the colors painted in the sky

ever stop to enjoy the sunrise as much as Deborah and I.

I wondered if trees we pass each have eyes

and if so do they enjoy all the colors painted on the sky?

Do the dolphins notice the sunrise….recognize how beautiful the sky can be

when they come up to catch their breath…as the float under the sea.

Does the ocean enjoy the sunrise…does it ever think…how sweet

that all those painted colors begin where the sky and my waters meet?

And finally as the sun is busy painting the morning sky…does it stop…once in a while…

to check it’s reflection mirrored on the ocean……and give itself a smile.

Of course until we can converse with nature…we may never know

If they enjoy the sunrise…the wind, the rain, the snow…

But I believe in miracles…I’ve witnessed one or two…

and until nature tells me different…I like to think they do.
