BABY MATH

 

When your first child is born…when you see your baby’s face

in that instant for that child all your love is placed.

And you think you have no more love to give 

but you find out you are wrong…

when in the evolution of your family

your second child comes along.

When you first look at your new baby’s face

you realize something you didn’t think could be true…

that somewhere from within your heart…

you now have love enough for two.

And you know looking at your two children

for as  long as you will live…

between them you will divided all the love you have to give.

But once again you realize your mathematics is all wrong…

as your family keeps growing and your third child comes along.

Because when your second child was added…you were, at first, misguided

to think the love you had within your heart…needed to be divided.

Then once your third child joined your family

you understood how baby math is applied.

that your love never needs to be be divided…

because it’s multiplied.

And though you’re not sure where it came from 

somewhere deep within your heart you found

with each succeeding child 

you have more than enough love to go around.

It’s true you’ll never quite know how it works

but you’re glad you’ve been shown this path…

that through the miracle of childbirth 

you’ve learned the rules of baby math.
