ALL LIVES ARE PRECIOUS

When each of my children were born…at the viewing window

shoulder to shoulder alongside all the other parents standing there

with big smiles on our faces…we couldn’t help but stare…

I remember how we all congratulated each other…

as all new parents do…

I told them how precious their baby was…

and they said how mine was precious too.

In that moment standing together in that special birthing place

we saw the innocence and the purity on each little baby face…

As we marveled at the new lives just created…

and wondered if everyone could hear our individual hearts beating…

we realized how life itself is so beautiful, so fragile…so fleeting.

And having experienced this same feeling with my grand children and great-granddaughter

I am more than happy to say…

seeing our babies as precious is a feeling that never goes away…

And so I wonder:

If as they grow we continued to see every child as precious…

if we can still find the purity and innocence on each face

would our children all be a little bitt happier…would the world be a different place?

If we could see all children through the eyes of a new parent…

as they do on the day their new life begins

we would understood what makes them precious lies beneath their sex,

their gender, their religion…and the color of their skin.

If we think back to what we felt…all those years ago…at are first meeting…

and remind ourselves how beautiful is life…how fragile…and how fleeting.

Hopefully it will give us pause…it might make us think twice…before

we demean another person…or send them off to war.

To everyone…especially leaders and politicians:

The next time you feel like belittling another person…

the next time you feel like sending them off to war…

Please…before you do…

remember…these people whose lives you are so callous with…

are precious to someone too.
