Today I’m thankful that I’m different
have been since my birth…
from every other person upon this planet Earth…
Thankful our creators understood
how it would be a shame
how the world would be a boring place
If we al were the same.

Dear Humans,
This is a note from all the Gods…
(that is to whomever God you’re praying to)
If we can show compassion and acceptance for everyone we created…
we’re wondering…
why can’t you.
Love,
Your God
When I stop to ponder this subject…I’m not as perfect as I think…
I have never been able to whistle…my left eye…I can’t wink.
Without my glasses I can’t see clearly…I have a huge gap between two toes…
My hair has stopped growing on my head…
but it keeps growing on my back
and in my ears and nose.
I could go on and on…but that’s enough about me….
What if I’m exactly the person my Gods created me to be?
What if the Gods in all their wisdom…as part of their mystique…
decided to make none of us perfect…but all of us unique?
What if when they got together to create us…
after choosing human as our name
they decided to make everyone a little different…
so no two people are the same?
And what if they hoped we’d come to accept the differences in ourselves..
as well ads in each other…
differences large and small?
Knowing only when we do…
will we have a perfect world after all.
Today I’m thankful for our tears…
the ones that appear when feelings of sorrow have been stirred…
to help us express our sadness
when we can’t find the words.
Today if you encounter someone dealing with grief or sadness
may it be part of your plan…
to help ease their grief…their sadness
any way you can.
On the first day of the new year in a nature preserve not far from our home
we ran across a Wind Phone when on our visit to a giant gnome.
The 17’ tall gnome (whose name is Gnomeo) was impressive
and a fun way to start the day…
but what caught our eyes and touched our hearts was the Wind Phone
one short walk away.
In 2010, after his cousin died, Itaru Sasaki, who lives in Otsuchi, Japan
had this notion…
To build a phone booth with a disconnected phone on a grassy hill
overlooking the Pacific Ocean.
When his cousin died Itaru was crestfallen, despondent…dejected….
and he used this phone to express his grief and to his cousin stay connected.
Itaru would enter the booth, pick up the phone and talk to his cousin…
on those days he was feeling low.
He believed his words would be taken by the wind to exactly where they needed to go.
A year later, after a tsunami hit Otsuchi, Itaru found in his grief he wasn’t alone…
and with his permission people began lining up to talk to lost loved ones on his phone.
When word got out people form all over came to Itaur’s phone…
which today still makes him stop and grin….
as they call loved ones they have lost and send their words out on the wind.
Now…you can find wind phones all over the world…
200 in the United States alone…
and Deborah and I were happy to have happened on this phone….
to sit for a moment in solitude…sifting through memories we’ve amassed…
and to send our voices on the wind to people we love who’ve passed.
Of the 200 wind phones in this country…
how lucky were we to find one so close to home….
while walking in a nature preserve…
just a few steps from a gnome.
Today I’m grateful for 17 little things
that help make life worthwhile…
that would be the muscles in my face
that help create my smile
