Happy Thanksgiving

They gave me their tired, their poor, their huddled masses....
yearning to be free.

From the wretched refuse of their teeming shore...
they sent their homeless...
tempest-tossed...
to me.

To help them find their way...
I lifted my lamp beside my golden door...

And I welcomed them with open arms...
onto my bountiful shore.

These words are taken from a poem written by Emma Lazarus...
in 1883
And can be found commemorated on a plaque...
inside the Statue of Liberty.

As a divided America give thanks today...
Now is a good time to remember Emma’s words...
and what they meant...

Because...
not only was Emma Lazarus a woman...

She was a Jewish immigrant.
