NOT EASY TO EXPLAIN

“Mom! You say you love me when you kiss my head as you tuck me into bed.

It’s something every night I’ve heard.

I was just wondering….how do you know you love somebody?

What’s the meaning of that word?”

“Love is not easy to explain.” She said. “It arrives at it’s own time and pace.

It’s an invisible feeling that immediately fills your heart…

and shows up on your face.”

“I think love is always out there searching for us…wherever we choose to go.

The best guidance I can give you is…when she finds you…you will know.”

“And when it comes to loving you…it’s something I just knew.

I felt love enter into my heart with my first thought of you.”

There is one more curiosity about love…one more thing I’d like to say…

I’m not sure how it works…but it grows stronger every day.”

He asked his dad the next night…his answers were similar…

It’s as if they had it planned.

Which doesn’t matter because he found both parents definition difficult to understand.

Both his mom and dad said he’d understand one day…

That perhaps at that time he was too small…

Which only made him wonder if his parents understood love at all.

Until the day he saw her…and felt his heart begin to fill

and a smile show up on his face.

And everything his parents said…fell beautifully into place.

Yes, he used to wonder about love…why it’s so difficult to explain…

But now…just as his parents did all those years before…

When he looks at his wife and family…he doesn’t wonder anymore.

THANKFUL FOR SILENCE

Today I’m thankful for for the ability to appreciate silence:

How when we are blessed to spend some time in silence

we enjoy her calm…

her peace…

her art

while taking the time to nourish our souls

as we listen to the whispers of our hearts.

SILENCE, SADNESS AND LOVE

I am in awe of silence…in her perplexity…

I find both a beauty and a mystery in her tranquility.

Have you ever sat in silence with someone you love…

hoping that silent moment would never end?

It is in moments such as these when silence is our friend.

Have you ever stood hypnotized in the midst of a silent snow?

or watched clouds silently changing shape as they’ve drifted to and fro?

Have you ever felt the awkward silence that accompanies a first date?

or tiptoed through the silence when you arrived home a little late?

And there is a type of silence no one should ever miss…

The silence one experiences…the moment…just before a kiss.

In the aftermath of a death, the ultimate silent tragedy,

have you ever felt the silence become your enemy?

Sadness arrives in silence, for there is a silent moment when...

you realize you will never see or hear or touch that person you loved…again.

And even though they may be gone…it matters not how many years

it is in the silence of our loneliness where we cry our deepest tears?

But silence doesn’t stay our enemy for long…she soon reminds us she’s our friend

for it is in the silence of our slumber…when our heart begins to mend.

And soon we’re comfortable again in silence…content…because we know

it’s in the silence of the evening when trees begin to grow?

It’s in the silence of the morning that the flowers create their blooms

and the miracle of life begins in the silence of a womb.

So the next time you’re sitting quietly with the one you love

or on a silent stroll….

remind yourself where love begins…

in the silence of your soul.

THANKFUL FOR THE RAIN

Today I’m once again thankful for the rain:

As I search the world for beauty and for bravery

I wonder if raindrops aren’t the most beautiful and bravest of them all…

As they beautify and nurture our entire world every day

while unafraid to fall.

NIGHT RAIN

]The weatherman said there’s a chance of showers—50% or more.

so I put on my raincoat that morning before I headed out the door.

If the weatherman was wrong…no worries…

the weather in Florida is sometimes difficult to explain.

But…if the weatherman was right…I’d get to walk out in the rain.

Since I already donned my raincoat it was with considerable delight

when I started walking and realized…the weatherman was right!

It was a light night rain…invisible to the eyes……falling softly to the ground

that seemed aware of all the people still sleeping …as it hardly made a sound.

I zipped my raincoat up as the air grew colder and colder

and watched as some of the raindrops landed gently on my shoulder.

And as more raindrops parachuted in from the night sky painted black

I could hear them as they landed on my head and scurried down my back.

And it made me smile as I traversed the ever-dampening terrain

to think…how lucky I was this morning..to be greeted by the rain.

As you may have guessed the rain is quiet…raindrops do not like to talk

so I did all the talking to the raindrops on my walk.

I thanked them when I got home…for a morning I won’t soon forget.

Of course the raindrops didn’t answer as they weren’t through raining yet.

That evening as I crawled into bed…memories of those raindrops still remained…

Again I smiled knowing:

Some of the most beautiful dreams we can dream…

are those inspired by the rain?

THANKFUL FOR KINDNESS

Today I’m thankful for any act of kindness…

and I wish the world could see…

how kindness is the first step

on the road to acceptance

to love

to peace…

and harmony

ONE SIMPLE ACT OF KINDNESS

One of the beauties of kindness is, once a kindness has been performed

there’s a good chance the person giving and the person receiving that kindness…

will…in some way…be transformed:

A new girl entered her classroom…

and the students, even though they had been informed,

could not stop their staring…as her features were deformed.

Teacher smiled, gave her a big hug…and said,

“Welcome, let me show you to your seat!”

“Class!” She announced, “this beautiful girl…I’d like you all to meet.”

“Her name is Sally.” Teacher said then she led her down the aisle.

As Sally walked she was glad to see so many of her classmates smile.

And as each classmate smiled at her…even those sitting in the back

Sally could not help herself…she cheerfully smiled back.

At the end of the day Sally approached the teacher

“ I want to thank you.” she said, “I want to thank you a lot…”

“For making me feel beautiful…even though you know I’m not.”

“I saw how beautiful you were the moment you entered my room.” Teacher said.

“Oh, don’t look so surprised!”

“I knew that you were beautiful when I looked into your eyes.”

“None of us are perfect.”…teacher smiled, “So don’t ever let yourself be misled

because we don’t have to be perfect…to be beautiful.” she said.

That simple act of kindness has taken Sally far…

as each morning she begins her day by telling her students…just how beautiful they are.

For she understands her students come to her

with their own struggles…their own worries…their own strife

and how sometimes one simple act of kindness…

can change a person’s life.
